Amazingly simple

In 2006 Pastor Rick Warren spoke on TED about his amazing book “The Purpose-Driven Life”. He didn’t just speak about his book, he also spoke about believing in yourself, God and the power within all of us.

This got me thinking… So, I will try to answer the three questions he asks the people he adresses.

Question 1: “What’s in your hand?”

What is the object of your work? Your main activity offers you Identity, Influence, Income. So you have a great responsibility when you choose a career path.

My mother always used to say to me: “You need to do something you like, something you are good at and at the end of the day you will have have the satisfaction of the job well done.”

It’s just that simple. If you are a mechanic, tools are in your hand, so they are your identity: you are a handyman. They are your influence: people come to you because you can fix their cars. They are your income: more cars fixed, more money earned.

No job is better than the other. The difference is made by the people doing tha job.

Question 2: “What are you going to / (doing) do with what you’ve been given?”

My personal favorite :) Because, yet again, my familiy, this time my father said to me one day as we were walking the dog: “You are good at what you do, don’t doubt yourself. Try different things and see what you are really good at. Nobody can stay in your way if you make up your mind.”

Again, it’s just that simple. We all have different talents and we need to use them to our benefit. For example, some people may be good at organizing, others may be good at making the most amazing batch of muffins on the planet. No matter what you are good at, use it so that it benefits you, and the people around you.

Question 3: “What am I wired to do?”

This is related to question 2, but it has a different meaning. Your experience, your life have taken you to where you are now. So, you have been shaped by everything around you. If in your current position you dream about being somewhere else, it is not what you are wired to do.

Look at the world in front of you, look at the experiences you have had and to what you were meant to do.

Many people try to adjust their expectations and dreams to the society they live in. Nothing and no one has the right to undermine you. Dream big and take the necessary steps to achieve these dreams.

Pastor Warren said: “Did you know that God smiles when you be you?” It’s just that simple.

Enjoy watching Pastor Warren speaking :)
